1860 Army (or other open top) Arbor fix anyone?

I did my 1860 Sherif's model and would like to compare results.

I have several 1860’s that have been run hard for more than 40 years without the “fix”. No problems to report. I have ”fixed“ and I can’t see any difference in them.
