This .44 cal bullet stopped my doe on Saturday. Shot from my Optima pistol with a green sabot ahead of a 63 weighed grain charge of BH 209, the doe was 37 yards away. The hit was at a quartering angle with impact 2/3 of the way up on the rear chest wall with the bullet lodged in a pile of broken rear leg bones on the opposite side. Unreal damage to the femur yet very little actual tissue damage.

This was a healthy doe at about 140-150 to pounds before field dressing. She went about 25 yards. The bullet caught a small piece of the stomach and absolutely turned the liver to mush, the whole liver.

Muzzle velocity of this load has been chronographed at just under 1450 at the muzzle. No doubt that there’s adequate energy and speed for the bullet to function.

A 250 grain, .45 cal, XPB took a very nice doe tonight out of the V2 Accura. 77weighed grains of BH209 pushing the bullet in a black sabot. I posted a picture of the heart on here just another section.

The 45cal 225gr XPB was a huge favorite for many NULA owners. They were typically shot at well over 2200fps in NULAs but will perform just fine at any reasonable impact speed. 45Colt +P loads are not all that fast even in a carbine and a ML will easily match that.

General Bullet aka Copper Only Projectile sold a 200gr and 225gr 45cal that are very similar to the Barnes. I think they have a something in 44cal too.

If anyone knows where these bullets are in stock I’d appreciate the heads up. I’d like to give them a try as im a huge Barnes fan but can’t find them anywhere.

Mossy - I’ve used a handful of different bullets from here in both muzzleloader and centerfire and have zero complaints. Maybe check them out if you still can’t track down Barnes. (Oh, and they might say backorder/out of stock, but they are usually very good about getting them made and shipped pretty quick - within the week most times I’ve ordered out of stock items).

I just weighed the bullet shown in the original post and it retained 100% of its original weight.
