What can you guys tell me about this round? I've got an old Winchester rifle in this caliber. I'm trying to figure out if it is a high wall or a low wall rifle & if this round would be a viable round for whitetail. Thanks for any help!

I believe that is the 38/40 Winchester cartridge, shoots a 40 caliber bullet.
Was chambered in levers and some colt single action revolvers.

I've taken deer with my 45 caliber Black Diamond using 180 grain 40 caliber XTP's at would be about midway between a standard and high velocity 38-40 load. 1550 fps to be exact. BANGflop with a broadside through the lungs. 50 yard shot and an exit wound. Gooey lungs in between. If your rifle is a single shot, the 180 XTP would make a fine deer load for you.
Back in the day, the old 38-40 was well thought of as a deer round.
If a lever gun, you need to crimp so the XTP would be a no go. It has no cannelure.
