Today was supposed to be a great day for shooting and as I had to go into town for a cardiologist appointment, figured I'd load up the truck with shooting gear last night and stop at the club afterwards.
Meeting with the doc went very well :)

My entire intent today was to determine the actual drops of 8208 and the Arrowhead 300gr XLD bullets at range, also compare them to the JBM chart. Also it would be the first time shooting 8208.

There were 3 shooters there when I pulled up and 2 were checking targets, so I drove down and hung up targets at 3,4,5 & 600yds.
Dialed to what JBM indicated for 300yds and sent the first two, which ended up touching, the 3rd was about an inch away. JBM was correct.
So then my next 3 were to be at 400yds. I looked down there and my target somehow had fallen, so to heck with 4, lets just go to 500yds.
At 500yds JBM was just close to a minute high, so I corrected that on my sheet and prepared to shoot 600yds.

Now we all know that when shooting any muzzleloader at distance, it draws a lot of questions. That was a good thing, as it created a good break and great conversations. As always, CF shooters are just amazed at how far a muzzleloader will shoot, even though today I was shooting SML.

There was very little wind, almost none, but what there was, was coming from the west. I used the information JBM gave me. I didn't adjust for wind, but I did use .5MOA as indicated in JBM for spin drift.
Loaded DUNAMIS up and sent 3.

Jeff, I couldn't be happier with the rifle you built me! Not bad for an old out of shape man. ;)

All three of the other shooters signed the target as witnesses.

Very Impressive !! Can't do any better with most center fire guns

The Arrowheads and the Hankins guns will do anything you can do and probably then some.
You will have to get on the waiting list if you can. Or find some one for a build.
Watch out for references if neither can do the work.

A person might be able to shoot a 1000 yrds. at Camp Atterbury Indiana. If that's convenient.
Just a suggestion to look into. If out west may not be a problem.
1000 yrds. is a long way. Not sure what the point might be.
The gun Encore is shooting is not meant or built for 1000 yrd. shooting.
Much to light for a SML muzzle loading gun. One has to get the weight up to 25lbs or more for extremely long range work.
Just saying

Do you plan to stretch this rifle out to 1000 yards?

Absolutely if possible. Likely would be shooting a 325 or 350gr bullets though.

There's two 1,000yd ranges in the state, one is military so that one's out. The second is 3.5hrs away at the Marksmanship Training Center. Membership isn't bad for a top notch range at $250, but its the travel distance to shoot. 7hrs round trip driving to and from the range takes up a lot of time.

Edit: Forgot to mention, there is an 1,150yd range that is within maybe 3 miles from the house. However there's an issue shooting there. The range is private property and is used ONLY by one person. He's a local guy and builds specialty sniper rifles for the military and does training. He's very much a loner and from what I understand doesn't want anyone knowing/in his business, nor using his range.
I have a very good friend here that owns a small excavating company and has done a lot of work for this guy. He has let my friend shoot one of his rifles, one time on the range. My buddy says he knows about me and shooting long range, but that's about all that was ever mentioned. My buddy is going to make an attempt to "suggest" that he allow me to shoot on his range. However, I've also been hearing that for the past 5 years too.
Maybe......... after all the crops are harvested, I could find one that had a safe place to shoot that distance. I have the word out, but my expectations are very low that that might happen.

I'm not so sure that the rifle isn't capable of 1,000yds. The rifle is a top quality rifle made by Bestill and there's absolutely no reason it can't ring steel at 1K IMO.
There are guys that have been doing it for 2 or 3yrs now with equal or lessor built rifles. If that's the case, then exactly why can't DUNAMIS do it also?
Now that would be a correct assumption if I were trying to shoot a mile or more.

A 10 pound gun can shoot a 1000 yards it don't have to weigh 25 pounds.
thats a ridiculous statement.
