Been looking at this one for almost a year. Got the owner, great guy and my favorite den of iniquity ( gun shop), down from $1150 to $900 o.t.d.
Unsigned, so the maker is a mystery. 36 inch ball barrel. Not sure as to brand as it too is unmarked. .50 caliber and the lock showers sparks.
She has sat for a WHILE though. Actually had mildew in the lock recess! The bottom inch of the bore had some crusties... Hopefully a non issue.
Her balance is excellent and I really will appreciate the shallow crescent of the buttplate. Getting bit is no fun.
The stock is a lovely, dark stained, piece of maple, with some fiddleback, quilting and even some birdseye mid forend. The furniture is German silver and nicely age dulled. She weighs about 7 1/2-8 pounds.
Fit and finish are really first class. Will take her out to Dixon's Thursday and see if Greg has any insights.
Fingers crossed...

Thanks!
I'm going to give her a taste of b.l.o. as she seems thirsty...
The touch hole is not removable. Do NOT like that... The face of the breech plug is milled to clear the vent.
The crusties in the last inch came out pretty easily. I really hope my powder column puts the ball above it... I don't shoot heavy charges. I like 70 grains...
She has a bit of spiff, but is quite a serious rifle.
I'm going to JB the bore and see about a removable vent. I don't want to be pulling pins to clean her.
I'm cautiously optimistic.
Its 90° here ( ugh). But on the way home, a FINE fat doe crossed the road in front of me. I'm taking it as a good omen!

That is a very good looking rifle and appears to be very well built. I'd call it a keeper.
