Black powder revolver

Bought this revolver in a lot. Working to clean it up. I soaked it in motor oil and then took all the moving parts off and blew it out with carb cleaner. Polished it up last night. Don't have any complete before pictures.

Barrel had some slight pitting in a few areas, but the bore brushed up pretty clean with strong rifling.

Yeah sorry. Ive been away for a bit. Its a Remington 1858. Probably made by Pieta or Uberti. Both make nice repro's. Any proof marks on the barrel should indicate who made it. Have you shot it yet?

No markings that I could find on it. I haven't shot it because I don't have any balls,patches for it. I also need to get a revolver nipple wrench and get the cylinder cleaned up. I have it well oiled sitting in the safe until I get a chance to do that. Been working on getting my new to me percussion rifles ready for hunting season.

Time To resurrect this thread. I FINALLY bought new nipples and balls for this pistol along with some pyrodex. What kind of load could I start with?

I'm also considering soaking the whole cylinder in evap O rust and using my tru-blu kit to re-blue it (and make sure I get any rust out of the chambers) what are the best tools/technique to clean the cylinder with?

Start with 15 or 20 grains. I would not go higher than 35 grains in a brass frame. Usually 25 is a good accurate load in them.

I just used bronze brushes and q tips to clean the inside of the cylinders of the 2 my gunsmith friend(and teacher) asked me to work on for him, one was an original colt pocket revolver and the other was just like yours, I also recommend a Ted cash nipple wrench or filing a 1/4" drive socket to fit the nipples, some also recommend a dab of anti-seize on the threads,
