My dad calls them "character logs". Every time we were camping we tried to find one and burn it, and as it burned we would speculate on what it looks like.

There once was a log. Looked like, and was the size, of a bedded doe. Ears, snout and all!
Me and Baby Girl went gun up on that thing so many times!
Then we'd look at each other and say " Really?! How many times we gonna do this?!"
Much laughter...
