We went into spring fairly damp but then it turned cold with snow and very cold afterwards. That was followed up by a very dry spell. We finally got rain and some nice mid-70's type of heat so Ma and I took a drive and a hike looking for mushrooms. I was driving on a one lane gravel minimum maintenance road, looking along the shoulder for a place to park and what should my old eagle eyes spy but a nice morel sticking up about 8". Stop right there and screw any other traffic. We ended up plucking a half a t-shirt bag full right on the one tree. After parking and snooping we found several more along with a mess of pheasant backs. So tonight for din-din its grilled burgers and mushies. I'm fishing in the morning but the afternoon is going to find me rooting around the woods again. Gotta love those fresh picked mushrooms.
