I have an older .40 gm barrel 1:48 twist, 32" long, 15/16" for tc hawken.

Question is: is this a rb twist or a conical twist or both. rb is to light for deer and to heavy for rabbit. would like to try 40 conical maybe like a sharps bullet

Unless it’s a Custom of Sorts? But Since it’s 32” Long i am Sure it’s a Roundball Barrel. If so, GM used a Slow 1:56 Twist for their .40 Cal Roundball Barrels.

Was this a Drop in Fit, Finished Barrel?

yes drop fit finish was mounted on a renegade stock. it is 1:48 twist i checked it 4 times to make sure

According to Green Mountain their .32 Cal and .36 Cal were 1:48 Twist, But their .40 Cal Shows 1:56 Twist, Maybe they made the .40 Cal in 1:48 as well Somewhere along the line?

GM use to make there 40 calibers with a 1:48 twist, I bought one that was 1" to fit my Renegade.

You can try shooting a bullet out of it but I sure wasn't successful using a Lee 175 grain SWC. That 1:48 twist becomes harder to stabilize a bullet as the caliber decreases.

My tablet doesn't take the best pictures but here is some GM barrels the were available in the 2008 Track of the Wolf catalog #17.

Lewis, feast your eyes on the 54 LRH barrel you spent a couple of years looking for.

To this Day i have not seen another .54 Cal GM LRH Barrel, The Brand New unfired Barrel that i found a Few years ago and Bought, is the ONLY .54 LRH i have ever Seen, or Heard of.

TOW didn't show everything in their catalog especially if was a close out.

I bought the last 3 - 1" x 34" straight octagon cartridge barrels that was 40 caliber with 1:16 twist . One of these I had Track install a breech plug and sights for my Renegade as a target barrel. Of course I then had Mountain Molds make a 360 grain bullet mold.

Also 1-1/8" x 34" straight Round cartridge barrel that was 45 caliber with 1:18 twist and had a machinist friend help me install it on an old H&R break open shotgun receiver. Boy was that thing heavy, I shot it for one season in a muzzleloader league then sold it.

Muzzleloader Builders Supply Co. has GM .40 caliber barrels for sale, 13/16" straight octagon, 1:60" twist.
36" = $160.00
42" = $175.00

If you are interested I have a .375 Lyman mould a thick patch may make it a rabbit slayer? I had intended to put round ball loads in a 410 she’ll have other projects

VERY DEEP, At least the .54 LRH was for me, It started to seem like i was Chasing a Ghost. I spent 2-3 Years of DILIGENTLY Searching, Pretty much DAILY, I would check all of the Gun sights Ebay, Etc. I made it a Daily Routin. I spoke to a TON of Different people, across several different Forums, NOBODY Had one, or could even tell me for Sure if a .54 LRH was even Made? I contacted Green Mountain themselves to make Sure, and YES they did Make them, but VERY Few. That gave me the Hope i needed to keep Digging, I’m Glad i did :lewis:
