It was surprising to discover there existed a grade 8 bolt that matched the threads in the patriot rifle. Missing lunch, a bolt was made into a breech plug allowing for a look at some dreamed up changes. Seeing ideas made in steel, just couldn't wait. Breech plug was sized to provide 'crush' to CCI 209, and Federal 209A primers.

For the flash hole a vent liner was installed on the powder end.

A 5/32" flame channel runs from the vent liner to the primer.

The plug was made a tad longer than the factory plug in an attempt to achieve a 'crush' on the primer, and stop blow by, without using an o-ring.

This morning saw a chance to shoot the Woodman Patriot rifle at 124 yard. Perfect conditions. Shot 9 shots. Used two different bullets. Both bullets were sized to allow them be pushed to powder with one bare hand. Powder charge was 95g Blackhorn. A poly wad was used, Primer was Federal 209A. No o-ring was used.

Primers, and primer socket remain bright and shiny after 9 shots. No blow through, and no blow by. So far, so good.

The first shot at bottom target was the lowest, and was from a cold clean barrel. Six shots with Speer bullets at bottom target, then three at top target using the Fury bullets.

Very impressive sir.my thinking is why the gun makers cant do this when they design and build these guns.you are very talented, and thanks for sharing your work and results

Actually, the Omega rifle, and breech plug work good. One can take the oldest Omega with the welded lug, or the newest Omega Dream Season; use the same breech plug, and see zero blow by, and zero blow through.

This is accomplished by only using the longest primers; the W209 primers 0.302" or longer. Quite a feat by the gun maker considering shot gun primers vary in length so much.

……..thanks for sharing your work and results

Thank you for the kind words.

This morning the vent liner was changed to a vent liner with a larger flash hole. Yesterday the vent liner had a flash hole of 0.031". Kinda wondered if that might be too small when hunting in colder weather. This morning the vent liner was changed to one with a 0.034" flash hole. Was pleased the larger flash hole did not lead to blow through, or blow by.

Set a target out 118 yard. Shot eight times from a warm fouled barrel. Then carried a bottle out about 324 yard, dialed up 18 moa, and MISSED.
