I have a GM barrel and need a little help identifying. It is a 1” barrel. .54 caliber, OAL is 29”. Barrel has unusual sights. I am not sure of the twist rate as I am not in possession of the barrel at this time( it is at my sons house). Based on caliber and length I believe it to be LRH 1:28”.
Thanks for help.
The barrel is for TC Renegade or 1” Hawken

29" barrel? I'd say its either a 1:48 or 1:66 just by looking at the bore in the pic. A 1/28 would make a full twist and this pic doesn't appear to make a full twist.

If it is an LRH it will say LRH just past the Caliber. It appears to me to be a Roundball Barrel. The odd Sights you speak of are a “Traditional“ Option, which again leads me to say Roundball Barrel

Thanks Lewis!
What confuses me is the length of the barrel at 29”. Round ball twist barrels usually are 32”, correct me if I am wrong.

I have only seen 1 Green Mountain .54 Caliber LRH Barrel in all of my Dealings, and i own it. They definitely made them, But a very limited amount of them.

You are correct! The Roundball Barrels were typically 32” Long. But Green Mountain did make some odd Barrel length run of Barrels, Like a Short LRH Barrel that is like 21” Long instead of the Regular 28” LRH (Just seen one of these 21” LRH Barrels sell on Ebay recently), I bet they did the same Sorta thing to a Run of Roundball Barrels? But I don’t know that for sure?

I seen an Old chart from Track of the Wolf on Green Mountain Barrels (I believe Saxtonyoung posted it? i will try and find it and post it here) I seen a few odd Barrels listed on that Chart that i have never seen Before?

My bet is a 70 twist. The rifling you can see outside of the light, doesn’t come close to making even a half twist, which would be fairly close, just a touch under 1/2 twist on a 29” barrel.

Good Call Stacey :lewis: I didn’t even look at the Rifling Pic, I was looking for the Caliber Stamp, Just passed it, you will see LRH if its indeed an LRH Barrel.

Seeing that the front sight is mounted with a couple of screws instead of a dovetail it wouldn't have been to hard of a job to shorten the barrel and mount sights of choice.

I agree with Stacey that it definitely looks to be a slow round ball twist.

I've owned both 28" & 21" LRH barrels and like Lewis stated they have LRH stamped on the barrel.

They made at least two, and I have the other one. Ser# 032049. I refer to it as the "Meat Maker"

That is REALLY Cool to know Bob! Mine is Serial #0334XX, It seems like their would be more of these Green Mountain .54 LRH Barrels Pop up on the Market over the Years? like the .45s and 50s, But you just don’t see these 54 LRH Barrels? They are a RARE Bird. I consider this one a Treasure, It will be with me til I’m gone :lewis:

Rare is an understatement. I've had this one over ten years and have not found another. BTW, thank you for your excellent educational videos.

I have a Renegade with a GM round ball barrel and it's 25 3/4"ong. I think the longer barrels were for Hawken rifles.
