Wow! Mother nature....At least you still have time to replant an get some veggies for the summer. In western VA. the growing season usually last up till Oct.10th give or take before the first frost.
 
It can be brutal. Thats why i keep several of my "must haves" in fabric pots. (A) the pots breath and (B) i can move them under the deck if i have enough warning. Another item that is great is a large onion or peanut bags. Just place them over a tomato cage. It takes a massive hail stone to penetrate one of them bags. They also breath so if you cant remove them right away you are fine. I use them as make shift sun screens for new plants.

This is two peanut bags i have stretched out for seedlings. Burlap works also. That is what i have behind them.
