I recently purchased a mold that was supposed to be a 50 cal. mold. After using the mold realized it was not 50 cal. Maxi ball falls into the barrel. It does not fit Lyman handles, had to extend the mold out to the end of the handles. Only marking on it is 574. Can anyone tell me what it is? I would like to sell it or return it if I still can. Thanks for any help

Does the last 2 digits tell You the caliber?

No, that’s just the Block Matching numbers. I have SEVERAL TC Molds, Some Say the Caliber on them, and Some Don’t. I have seen the Caliber Marked on the Blocks, and on top of the Sprue Plate. But Some have NO Caliber marking, Just the Mold Block Match Numbers

What do the bullets mic at? Do you still have mold and are you willing to depart with it?

What Herschel and Lewis said. Find a way to measure it, and I bet you can sell it on here rather easily.

Quick search on google, looks like a saeco mold. 574 is an obsolete single mold .386 diameter which would be for .41 colt. Like others said measure to confirm.

It is definitely NOT a Saeco Mold, They are Steel, and Look TOTALLY Different. Like i said above, It is an Aluminum TC Maxi Ball Mold, either a .45 Cal, or a .50 Cal that was Poorly Filled out “Hence” the Loose fit. The TC Maxi Ball is a Tapered Design Bullet, they are meant to “Slip Fit” up to the Top Band, The Top Band is referred to as a “Driving Band” and is what Engages the Rifling during Loading.

Here is one of my Saeco Molds, as you can Clearly see this is NOT even Close to what the OP Has

And a few of my TC Molds, This is DEFINITELY what the OP Has

Lyman made 3 sizes of mold handles over the years , your mold should fit the old style handles which are considered small. There was a time when most of their molds were single cavity so There are plenty of that size available. The handles they make now are for either 2 cavity or 4 cavity.

If your maxi mold is aluminum it was most likely marketed by TC, although Lyman may have been the one that produced them. I have Steel maxi molds that has Lyman's name on them.
