Hornady FTX .458 325 grain Two Bullets shot at 50 yards into 10% ballistic gel. Impact speed was 1217and 1238 FPS.

I’m impressed.

I froze the gel to be remelted and used again. I'd like to try other bullets. The brick looks to be good for about 4-5 shots before it's blown apart.

How is the accuracy with this bullet?

They have a reputation for being very accurate and shoot MOA for me. I thought they needed more speed but they the results speak for themself. I'm afraid it will peter out at long ranges with a BC of .23. Anything under 200 yards would be in big trouble.

They also shoot great out of my Knight 50 with orange crush sabot. I tested them in a gravel bank. They expanded and for the most part held together. I was impressed

AWESOME Performance!! This is as good as it gets in my opinion :lewis:

2190fps and retained 254gr

Virtually identical to what B&M got in their rifle.

When the Barnes O was in short supply and horribly overpriced many guys started using the 325gr FTX instead in their MLIIs. They did just fine. Hornady loads them to around a claimed 2200fps in the 450 Marlin ammo and 1950fps in 45/70. Should be a good match for quite a few MLs and upper end loads.

Looks great.
Were you able to measure its penetration length in the gelatin?
Of all the bullets Ron has tested, this is not one - to compare.
Thanks for showing..

My gel brick was 23” deep. ( all my fridge could Handel ) I had it pushed back to a stack of paper brochures. Each of the Bullets the that opened ( all but the Fury’s ) were found at the back the the gel brick but they didn’t have enough push to even dent the brochures. I may have had to dig the SST out a little short of the back The FTXs may have gone a little deeper but ran out of room.

Great test. That ftx looks good. I’ve shot different bullets into water and I wondered how they would do in ballistic gel. Here’s a 300 grain .500 ftx i shot into water jugs at 100 yards. Muzzle velocity was probably between 1600 and 1700 fps

Hornady uses a 250gr. FTX for their .450 Bushmaster load. It was super accurate for me but they did not hold up when hitting deer within 50 yards.

There are an awful lot of Bushmaster shooters that have had the same issue.

bamawoodsman........... generally somewhere around 2,200fps, although some reloaders have jumped them up considerably.
