Well what the heck. About 6 weeks ago I sent Bobby a .50 Caliber New Englander barrel along with a few sample bullets I sent thru the Lee .401” sizing die. Today I received the relined barrel and his customary yellow invoice for $200.00 + shipping (around $30.00) this is the nicest bore Ive seen from him yet. At one time I could spot a worn bit on his rifling head from time to time but this is fresh and sharp! Maybe rifle smiths get better with age just like wine and bourbon!?

Now, get it all mounted up and fitted to the High Plains Sporter stock and away we go! Also just picked up a two cavity Lyman 403169 to add to the lighter end of the spectrum. It should be here Monday. I have an embarrassment of riches…

That looks like a fun gun! Pics, please?

Do you think that you are going to have the same types of fouling issues that Idaholewis has posted about with his less than .45 caliber barrels?

This looks like a dandy rifle. I was speculating about such a build about a year ago.

They do foul faster than the 45 and 50’s but I have taken to swabbing every shot so it’s not really an issue. If you use heavier bullet/load combinations, they will eat standard steel nipples so be aware of that. I have a supply of Ampco and platinum nipples for these rifles.
