I came across an Investarms .50 cal Hawken at a pawn shop yesterday. Do not know much about them. I assume it is a 1-48'' twist. Looks like a solid well built gun. Seemed to be in OK shape. No external rust or pitting. Shined light down barrel. Seemed OK thru the cob webs but could not tell 100% how good a shape barrel is in. Might need to do a drop in light.
They are asking $150. Checking to see who might be familiar with this gun, the twist and the worth.

Thx

Good price, they are nice guns chrome lined bores easy to clean. My sporterized Hawken is very accurate with RB.
Some people think they are not as nice as T/C but to me they are just as nice/accurate and they handle very well point great especially the older ones. They are 1:48 Mine is the Cabelas Sporterized Hawken.
No way Id sell mine for 150.00.

They (Investarms) made that gun for a few dif companies. Cabelas, Sile, Lyman, Charles Daly, are the ones I know of. Their model # is 120B. Good Chromoly lined barrels. You can tell by the muzzle and bore being shiny silver, no bluing but no rust either. 1:48 twist. Average appearance but solid guns. Cabelas sold a version that had a nicer stock at one time. A sporter or hunter version i think. Not certain. Lots of them around. Very close to a TC but not identical. Shorter tang and dif lock screws.

$150.00 is a good price. If the bore is clean, and the inletting sound, then I would jump on it. Especially, if it is one of the older models, that tended to have better inletting.

The guy that runs Frontier Muzzleloading Forum has made an art form out of refurbishing these older Italian & Spanish muzzleloading rifles, especially the "Hawkens".

The walnut hidden under the thick finish is often quite beautiful.

For $107.00 that rifle is a real good bargin.

Drove back over the Potomac River into West Virginia today to the pawn shop. Barrel bore looked pretty good but needs some cleaning. Made an offer of $100. Walked out paying $107 w/tax. Inletting looks good, I am pleased. Will post some pics when I get her cleaned up.
Is Sparks Sporting Goods still open in Martinsburg?

It cleaned up OK. I used Brasso on the cheap brass and Beeswax spray on the stock.I was not fanatical about cleaning it. Looks 100X better than when I picked it up. Forgot to take before pics.
I was really surprised at how well the bore cleaned up and how good of shape it was in.
I replaced the original sights with some fiber optics. Some might call it sac religious but I don’t care. My 60 year old eyes need colorful fibers.
