The MK-85 Grand American was produced in 1991 or 1992, not 1985 as listed. The Master Hunter was not produced in 1985 either.

That circa 1991 production .50 caliber Knight Rifles thumbhole stocked MK-85 rifle shown in the above two photos remains one of my favorite all-time muzzle-loaded rifles
What made this particular MK-85 Grand American significant for the company, and especially for me, was that Grand American Serial No. S 9186 was the very first of the Knight "Master Hunter" rifle models.
This rifle was one of the first MK-85 Grand American rifles, which were built with that gorgeous laminated thumbhole stock. This model was also built with a "select" Green Mountain barrel. In those days (1992), every Knight rifle built was fired before being shipped ... and about 1-out-of-100 had a bore that proved to be absolutely perfect ... and those barreled receivers were set aside ... for the Grand American rifles. This one was built in late winter/early spring of 1992. I think this was about the 10th of those rifles produced. Back then, they sold for right at $1,000.

I have the lk-93 with protyp stamped on the barrel. Does anyone know if its the first lk-93 made or did they make hundreds of prototypes of that model?

Hello, I was given a Knight Muzzeloader from a friend I helped out and am trying to find out what model it is. There is no model shown on the barrel- just a serial number that starts with 336. I need to purchase a breach plug tool and learn more about what I now own. I removed the stock and no pitting- great shape but still no model number...

Pics would help a great deal. Thats not much to go on. There has to be some other info stamped on the barrel and/or receiver. Really old MKs had some letters/numbers on the receiver.

Thanks! Will try to attach some photos.

Looks light the Knight American, kind of a cheaper version of the lk-93. Looks like it has the slotted breach plug so that is the kind of wrench you need. The newer hex head breach plug should work in it also.

Thanks everyone. Craw- only numbers are 2 patents and serial number. Just looked again. JB- why is it hard to clean? Removing the breach plug? Also need to figure out attachments I need on the ram rod. Looks like its currently a bullet extractor.

USAK or American Knight is not on the rifle somewhere? A better pic of the Knight logo like this.

Bought mine new. The tool that came with it is short. one end takes out the nipple the other is slotted to take out the breach plug. First one needs to take out the set screw that locks the bolt so it can't unscrew. Then unscrew the bolt and pull it out. Inset the end of the tool to remove the nipple. You will need to pull the trigger to get the tool in. Remove the nipple reverse the tool to remove the slotted breech plug. The breech plug is rather long so quite a few turns to get it out. If you scope the gun then a little tough to turn the tool. Make darn sure you lube the breech plug and nipple threads each time so the plug does not sieze in. Once disassembled it ls not hard to clean. All this being said these guns are very accurate. I have taken many deer with it and the gun always fires. I also do not like the double safety. Good triggers too.

I have been creating a list of the Knight rifle models and when they were manufactured. I couldn't find a complete list on the internet so with the help of others on this forum I created this list. Please let me know of any changes or additions you know of and any of you guys that have original owner's manuals would you please post the years of the rifles that are missing?

Thanks

Could you get a picture of the rifle posted up here - that would help a ton to identify it.
