Last week my son Jacob and I went on our yearly ML hunt. I got into camp a couple days before Jacob did. I saw a lot of deer this year but very few bucks. The night before Jacob got there I saw a real nice 4 point. The next morning we were on a ridge and Jacob hisses at me. I look up to see the 4 point run to the right, and a buck up hill looking at me. I asked Jacob which was bigger. He said "down hill", so I went for the smaller buck leaving the bigger one for Jacob. Then Jacob told me that he left his sight in the truck. I went for the smaller buck anyway to save the bigger one for Jacob to try to get.
I went for a neck shot at 30 yards and he was down in an instant.

We got him to the trail, loaded and headed back to camp to skin.

We spent the next three days hunting that buck. Jacob saw him five times and I saw him two times.

Jacob passed a lot of deer on the hunt, all doe's. But he was able to shoot a grouse with his air pistol.

We had a great hunt. Next up is a late cow elk hunt.

Our sights are lyman 57 SML peep sights. A lot of the time we take them off when we are on ATV's or Motorcycles to keep them from being damaged. He had to store his rifle in his truck when he come up to camp so he took the sight off to protect it while driving the rough road there.

I sure miss hunting with my old man. We did more wandering around getting lost than anything else, except maybe freezing and drinking. Good times.

Awesome hunt! Could you show a close up of how your sling is attached on the front of your rifle please?

Thanks, I have a Knight bighorn that needs something different in the front. It has a forward mount but it is so barrel heavy that it is useless. Something mounted farther up the barrel would cure the problem.

This is what I installed this year on my Renegade with the GM BBL. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/100465559. You will need to measure the diameter of your ramrod guide to get the right one. They have a drop-down screen to select the correct diameter.
The one Toytruck posted won't work on GM bbls as the screw is different. If you get that one that ToyTruck posted you will need to get long narrow tweezers to get the screw through the ramrod guide. At least that is what I had to do to install it on a True 54 cal TC Renegade bbl.

The Uncle mikes Thimble had a problem for the green mountain barrel too. The uncle mike screw went through the under rib, and into the barrel. The Under rib on the Green Mountain was threaded. What I did was use a Green Mountain thimble screw. I drilled out the end of the sling swivel because the Uncle mikes used a Allen wrench. So I drilled it out to use a slotted screw driver. Then I used a magnetized screw driver to install. When I did mine I cleaned them with mineral spirits and used blue lock tite.

Awesome Ron, congrats! I'm sure you both enjoyed your time together! As you know, it ain't about the kill, but its a nice addition when you make it happen! :D

I am hearing that a lot of hunters are having a tough time finding deer here this year. I got really lucky.
