Talley has QR base/ring sets too but the rings are very expensive.
I was going to suggest that somebody had to have bases that would fit that gun, and to try and call Weaver or go into a gun counter and start trying them to see if one fits. You just saved him a ton of time!!

That he did!

There are a couple others in aluminum but i cant recommend them on a rifle with the scope being taken on and off every cleaning. Talley also sells the "light weights" but they dont come off without a complete re-zero each time. Talley steel bases are for Talley rings ONLY and them bad boys are around $100 a set. The bases are cheap.

Your best bet are the Warnes or Weaver Grand Slams. Fairly cheap and will accept a variety of rings.

I'm not new to scopes or black powder but both together is a new animal for me. I realize the need for quick release scope mounts because the cleaning prosseses are so different for the scope and the gun. It'll make things easier and if I can avoid rezeroing that's even better. Thanks again, it's exactly the information I needed.

My advice is to Definitely go with Steel! I had a Set of the Steel Weaver (Grand Slams) For the MK-85, I sold them to another Member a Year ago. They were Good Bases :lewis:

Steel on Steel for Constant ON/OFF Repeatability. Personally, I would go with Steel Rings as well, Like the Leupold Mark 4s

Great advice. I do like the quick release stuff for cleaning to. How'd the knight do with the scope? Range? Accuracy?

Rings like my Contessas, PRW2s and Seekins are not quick release but they are EASY release with a small torx. They will return to zero as well as any QR ring out there.

Loopie PRW2 would be a good match for the Warnes or Weaver steel bases. Plus they wont break the bank. Warnes Horizontals are also steel and very affordable. Loosen 4 screws total and they pop right off. A small allen type torx is a tiny tool or you can get one that looks like a screwdriver.

That's great information. I hope to do this by father's day!

These are mine but they ONLY fit picatinny bases. Takes me under a minute to remove my scope from the base. Warnes Horizontals would be the closest thing to them for Weaver bases. I would actually recommend the Warnes Horizontals for one reason.....They are STANAG/NATO interface. The rings will clamp down flush to the bases. Most Weaver type rings only contact the 2 bevel cuts on the side of a base. STANAG is top of the base and the 2 bottom bevels. You get more contact area using STANAG.

Another thing for you MK.... I recommend wrapping the scope between the rings with something to protect it from the blowback. I personally just cut strips of black electrical tape and cover it up. If you take your time and put it on a clean scope it will adhere nicely and you can't even really notice its on there. It helps tremendously, and its easy to clean or replace as needed. Some folks buy or make a bra, the tape has always worked for me.

I don't have quick release rings on any of my rifles, or take my scopes off. All my MK's have fixed rings, with weaver style rings/bases. Most are aluminum and since they aren't coming on and off, I've never had any issues at all. All my newer purchases have Warne steel rings and bases. Leupold also makes a set of std steel rings and bases, that fit MK's, if you like that style mount. :lewis:

In theory, you could buy a Tikka flat top picatinny rail and cut out the area for the MK85 breach. Then you could have a "semi picatinny" base setup. Rear would only have 2 holes but you could drill a third. EGW has a pic of the exact spacing for some of their rails. I think the Tikka flat top bases are also the same as the Sako Whitetail Hunter.

Loopie no longer lists the MK85 but if you lookup some older base reference sheets the MK85 was also listed. A few places used to have cross reference sheets for different brands. Wish i would have snagged one of them. You could look up say...Weaver S61 and cross reference it with Loopie and other brands.

BTW when ive called Leupold in the past with a question they have been SUPER helpful. Very knowledgeable CS staff. If they dont know they can usually find someone that does know.

Just bought a 2019 CVA Paramount and looking for recommendations for rail, scope and rings. I am VERY partial to Vortex scopes.. Yes I know this is a loaded question but still want to know thoughts. Thanks!

Anyone try the Bushnell Trophy DOA 250 muzzleloader scope? Just bought one on Amazon..open box for less the $120... Looks to be a nice piece..
Had that scope on my Redemption and it performed flawlessly. Good for the money. Now I keep it in case I have trouble with another scoped gun.
