Made the most of a quick opportunity yesterday evening. He popped out of the brush dogging a fawn. 90 yards away and he dropped where he stood. Shooting a 350 grain monolith copper bullet, designed for subsonic .45-70 loads (.458).
Similar bullet was reviewed earlier: Maker Rex Subsonic Bullet
Used Harvester Crush Rib (orange, for .458/.50) with 90grV of BH209 and CCI 209M primer. This setup has a muzzle velocity of 1715 out of my Optima, which would give a velocity around 1400fps at 90 yards. Appears bullet opened as it should without breaking up. Broke ribs going in and out, as well as taking out bottom half of spine. Large, single hole exit. Think I’ll stick with it. Hopefully try it out on some Florida hogs this winter.
