GREAT question. I've had 2 Omegas in .50, 1 when they came out & another a few yrs later. Not until a cpl yrs ago did I learn that there was a Z5 model. Just heard of the dream season & X7 models. I was shocked to learn TC made a .45 Omega. Are the differences between the models just stock type & black or SS barrels & plain or fluted barrels? How many different models of omegas were made. I have an original the year they came out. I know they made a dream season & at least one more. What are the differences?
Both my .50 Omegas were Lam/SS models, if I'd had head back then that there was a .45 model I would have hunted it down like Bigfoot. I think that stock color is Nutmeg, but I'm not 100% on it.Had 2 grey laminated stainless Omegas a .50 and a .45, have a cinnamon(or whatever its called looks just like Rons) stocked X7 now.
I tried to get a 45 Omega recently. Almost got it, I think, with much help from NatureNick. But the seller just flaked out. I'll keep looking for one though. Both my .50 Omegas were Lam/SS models, if I'd had head back then that there was a .45 model I would have hunted it down like Bigfoot. So, whats the Z7 & Dream Season have that the reg Omega doesn't? Whats the Z5 have the Omega doesn't?
Has anyone that has cut the QLA off of their Omega barrel found that it improved the accuracy of it worthy of the cost incurred to do it?
I don't think they made the .45 for very long. The highest serial number I have seen is in the 80,000's where as with the .50 ,I have seen 400,000(these numbers were on SS only) and then they changed the serial numbers the S&W numbers so who knows. Early .45's were 1-20 twist but most of them were sent back to TC due to accuracy issues. Sabot technology/materials were not up to task when it came to fast twist barrels back then. TC exchanged them for 1-28 twist barrel which were more friendly to the bullet/sabot combos of the day. If you find a 1-20 Omega you will be one lucky dude. They are as scarce as frog fur. Both my .50 Omegas were Lam/SS models, if I'd had head back then that there was a .45 model I would have hunted it down like Bigfoot. Dang! Sorry ya missed that one brotha. I hope ya find another one. Now I have an Omega Action due to the awesomeness of one of the MML members. I'm gonna pass along the orig barrel perhaps for a reasonable price. I have a cheap scope & rings on it I'm deff gettin rid of cheap' too. I'm gonna focus on a SML Omega .45 1:18. I'm slobberin all over Boyds sight a lot lately. I passed up a cpl .50 Omegas Camo TH & Lam TH both SS fluted barrels, they went for over 600.00 including shipping. One was like 585.00 W/0 shipping. I think a Nutmeg TH stock .50 SS/fluted was sold recently as well & that too was " up there " IMHO considering what they costed new. It's kinda weird hearin so many complain or just trash the TC's for their QLA's being " OFF center of bore " etc... but every single one of them that come up for sale ppl are talkin about them in our forum & others & everyone is after one & the prices are reflecting just that. I'm really sorry for anyone that had or has an Omega & has " issues " with it or its accuracy. I'm grateful that both of my experiences with them over ????? 15yrs or there abouts & they were shot a heck of a lot ( I was lucky enough to have a semi small group of country boys that all had a lg selection of guns, they loved shooting any kind of muzzleloader as often as we could back in the day ) I never had a single quality control issue, or malfunction, or accuracy issue with either one.I tried to get a 45 Omega recently. Great post. TYIf you're referring to the X7, it had the shorter barrel with fluting and milled flats back by the breech and a single ramrod thimble. The stock was a nutmeg laminate. The Z5's were the last version of the Omega. a few of the early ones had true SS and blued barrels and blued actions. Later, TC went to painted barrels, with the "Weathershield blued" version having the SS action and the " Weathershield SS" version having the Blued action. All the Z5's I've had were with plastic stocks. The Dream Season had the same barrel as the X7 but was a true lite weight version of the Omega due to the lite weight stock(not sure of the material). These descriptions are general. I believe TC built Omegas with what parts were on hand that's why there are overlapping features on different models. I've probably had 35 Omegas and I've seen a lot of different combos of parts from what I believe were factory rifles

I always thought the Z-5 was the entry level model. The are blued / composite. I think I paid $225 for it at Cabelas. That would have been about 2004.
My Z5 is camo composite with a thumb hole and stainless. One of my best shooters. 275 grn Fury in a crush rib and 100 grns volume black horn.
The Dream Season had the same barrel as the X7
