I believe my Savage ML11 has something they call QLA in the muzzle. It is in effect a lead or "taper" or a "false muzzle". It is in the first inch or so of the muzzle and permits easier starting of the sabot as the bore is bigger to start. It does not seem to hurt accuracy on my gun but I have no real comparison unless I would cut that part of the barrel off. The question then is would a similar feature be of value on a sabotless gun to more easily start the centerfire projectile?
Also would it do any harm and would it be expensive to produce especially if it were put in before the rifling?
The reason for all these questions is I am seriously thinking of getting a sabotless .40 barrel and I would like to get all the "right" features initially. Thanks for the various inputs. This is a great site addition IMO.
