I tried my " Go to" load. A 45 caliber 250 grain Hornady XTP in a Harvester crush rib sabot and 70 grains of 3f Swiss. Every rifle I've shot this load in LOVES it. Deer, however, do not enjoy it...
My Hawken loves it too! Fired 10 today. 50 yards, issue sights. Overall group was 1 3/4 inches. Largest 3 shot, 1 3/8ths Smallest. 13/16ths.
Wow...
I took some steel wool on a bore brush and had at the patent breech. Didn't seem to get anything out, but had no misfires today. I did dump clinker when I finished patching between shots. Some did come out.
Have to say that I MUCH prefer the older design TC breech plug, with the angled channel and clean out screw.
This Hawken is well on its way to being a winner. With better sights, I do believe she'd have just torn a hole.
Good rifle.
