Picked up something I’ve always wanted yesterday. I grew up reading the old articles about hunting and the favored guns of the times, and the savage 99 has always intrigued me. I would rather have a 250-3000 or 300savage, but I picked up this 308 on a great deal.

Good choice on the .308 , no problem on finding ammo.

Very nice! I’m also a fan of the Savage 99. I foolishly let a good deal on a 99 .300 Savage slip through my hands about 15 years ago. Still kick myself for that.

My maternal grandfather passed onto me his Savage 99 in .250-3000 I killed a few deer with open sights an had it drilled an scoped an killed several more. I now prefer .30-06 caliber, but if one put that little 100gr. bullet in the heart/lungs the deer didn't last long.
That rifle has a forever home an will be passed on to my youngest son.

Nice find 50!!

Back in June I picked up a VERY nice VERY accurate Model 99 EG .30-30 ( my absolute favorite caliber) made in 1937 and in close to new condition. I recently got a Lyman 1A tang sight for it and I've shot groups at 100 averaging an inch and a half for 3 rounds. Did put 3 into 11/16ths once. Will work on doing that again!
Never thought much of, or about, the M99 until I got this one.
My bad...
