Just wanted to say thanks.
I tried your idea of using a double patch and I can testify that it works great.
Last year, I bought a Traditions deerhunter rifle, New old stock 45 caliber with a 1/66 twist 24 inch barrel.
With a 440 ball and a .010 cotton patch over 60 grains of 3f Old Ensyford, I was getting so so groups at 50 yards.
I recently found some 445 balls and while up at the range yesterday, I decided to try a double patch.
I messed around with my powder charges and settled on 80 grains of 3f, 445 round ball with a double .015 cotton patch.
My groups tightened up dramatically and my recovered patches were almost good enough to use a second time.
I definitely recommend trying Lewis's method.
