About the XP100 and Savage Striker, do they use a shorter action than a rifle short action version?

The Savage Stiker is pretty much a standard short action, but with the handle on the left side because most shooters would hold it with their right hand. The trigger mechanism is not the same.

The price on these has gone up a tremendous amount.

Man, I wouldn't imagine a smokeless mz could kick as much as a 300 wsm especially with a good break.

You can only get the mini howa with barrel already installed,,, they do make nice smokeless muzzleloaders I've put together too I really like that little action,, anyway I went to the shop cut the barrel and crowned it I've got to order a screw for the back of this little chassis it won't be long it'll be going bang

My smokeless muzzleloaders which shoot a 275 grain bullet at 3,000 fps produce over 5,000 foot-pounds of energy.

Ballistic Calculators - Hornady Manufacturing, Inc

I always equip them with a good recoil pad, or a brake.

Otherwise, they can kick more than a 300 wsm.

.
I have a converted cva scout ( no brake ) and am in the process of building 1 off a large shank savage short action ( barrel is the last piece ) . I know they have a pop to them, but I was thinking a wsm in a handgun, with factory ammo is going to kick pretty decent. With a smokeless MZ in a hand gun you probably aren't going to be shooting 70+ grains of powder and a 275 grain bullet. With a good break you can create a very shootable/killing load.My hot 45/70 TC Contender load sucked, I wouldn't have any want or reason to duplicate it. Lol

" Anyway, he loves it but he said he's limited to the powders he can use to get the velocity he's after and he can't find a 40 cal bullet heavy enough to suit him."

Pittman bullets has .402 325gr bullets for sale. Not heavy enough?

You probably know this, but you need a non designated action. You can turn a handgun into a rifle but not the other way around. Why I was thinking XP100. Instead of buying a action and going from there, comp some money back selling parts.
oooorrrr, don't use a modern firearm as the basis of your ML, and you don't need to worry about it.

Preferred Barrel Blanks 12", 1.06" shank, .458 groove. - $265
1.5x3x12" Steel Rectangle Bar (for box lock and Tradition's Yukon style droping block)- $67 (but only need 6-8")
.125x3x12" steel bar (side plate and trigger guard)- $4.15
3/4-16x1.25" Stainless bolt (breechplug)- $2.99.
#8-32x3/8" stainless socket head screw (.27" head turned down to .25") (for fire-channel liner and support for priming)- $6.61/5
#8x32x1.5" screws (to hold the action plate on the box-lock and barrel in the lock/frame)- $9.16/100
.25 Auto cases, cut to .2" or so, primed with Small Rifle Primers
Taps, Drill bits, Counterbores- $125
8/4x 8" x 1' Cherry board- 18$ (treat it with lye to bring out that beautiful red color)
.375x12" brass round bar (rammer)-$7.52
.125" O1 round stock (firing pin)-$8.99/ft
Confined-Space Conical Compression Spring, 0.25" Long, 0.42" x 0.187" OD, 0.35" x 0.117" ID- $3.66
Jard AR Set Trigger ASSY- $225 (you could make your own set trigger and firing mechanism for less, but this is easy; if you want a linear hammer, I would use a L&R Double or Single set Trigger and a sear arrangement like in the Mannlicher-Schoenauer cutaway below)

You could have a ML together for between $518-$744, plus about 14-20hrs of time, you can also make a shoulder stock for it and fit a longer barrel to it as well (when you want a longarm); and you don't have to worry about it being an SBR or needing a 4473.
Tools needed: drill (preferably a drill press), vise, taps for screws/bolts, drill bits that fit the screws/bolts, hacksaw, angle grinder, files, Dremel /die grinder w/ mills, square, caliper.🤷‍♂️ Just proof it before shooting it in hand.

You make it, I'll buy it

I've built lots of xp-100s. Little 17s through 300rum and 458x2". I'd do a muzzleloader if it was legal to hunt with one here, but it isnt....
