hi all, new to this forum.
i have a percussion gun that i have hunted with for 30 yrs.
time to look at an inline and scope.after bowhunting 50 yrs i also bought a crossbow this year.
i am looking at cva wolf and cva western model. with the wolf i get 209 primers but a blued barrel and with the western i get percussion caps and stainless steel. i see rusting in muzzle loaders i don't see with modern centerfires and would prefer s.s.
i have never had a problem with percussion caps like are used on the cva western. i guess i need advice picking between the 2 models. thanks

I suggest that you check out the Accura MR in Nitride which is a fine BP rifle.

Are these rifles in a store? You can get all combos with the Wolf. You can even go back and forth between 209 primers and NW legal by switching out the firing pin assembly and breech plugs.

Look at CVA's website for all the combos.

What is legal in your state?

CVA offers Nitride in every model of muzzleloader now. The Wolf comes in blued, stainless, and nitride.

If you want both the North Western percussion cap model and the 209 primer model, you can just purchase one or the other, then get the conversion for the other.

Check these out, from low to high. You can get a stainless Wolf for $208. You can step up to the Optima V2 in Stainless for $249.

Wolf stainless NW cap sights $209

The 209 conversion is only $26. The North West conversion is $40. Both include what's needed to change ignition type.

209 $26

You would need the installation tool to seat the 209 plug for the first time. $4

thanks guys for all the info. my choice will be the wolf stainless for 209 primers.
idaholewis, my current muzzleloader was made by ''fox valley muzzleloaders''. inexpensive but has always performed.
when i bought it i found the peep sight i had taken off my browning t bolt .22 i had bought new in 1969. a little machining and a higher front sight and a peep sight msakes a muzzleloader shoot wonders.

The Wolf is a fine rifle, I have the Optima in stainless and I love it. Enjoy.

The nitride is a coated SS barrel.
Nitride is not a coating. It is a treatment that changes the physical properties of the surface of the steel. I point this out because it is an important distinction. Since it is not a coating, it will not crack, chip or come off the surface of the barrel, as a coating may, short of filing or grinding away the steel itself.

Dikar S Coop owns Bergara, CVA, BPI ect ect. I would imagine all CVA barrels come out of the Bergara barrel plant. Barrels labeled Bergara go through additional finishing steps but IMO its no big deal. Its not like its a match grade hand lapped bore that has been air gauged to extreme tolerances. Its more or less just a mechanical polishing process.

Ive seen plenty of Optimas that shoot just as good as Accuras. Get stainless or stainless/nitride for sure. Its worth the extra level of protection. The additional cost of the nitride is a bargain if you ever priced having it done. Its well over $100 to send off a barrel for a nitride treament.

Its what?...$40-60 more over just stainless if you get it from the factory?

Hello,
My CVA Optima V2 and my CVA Optima Pro both have fluted barrels.
The Optima V2 is SS with nitrite finish while the Pro has nitrite finish.
