T/C Maxi Hunters .54 cal

My dad gave me a box of T/C Maxi Hunters, 435 gr. .54 cal. Looking for a suggested starting load. Gun is a MK-95 with 1:28 twist. I was thinking 60 gr. I shoot BH209.

Should be ok. I'd keep the shots close, 25-50 yards, just to see how they group up. Work your powder charge up from there.

Do you guys use wads? I have used veggie cards with my 45 and 50 but don't see any for the 54. I see wool wads dry and lubed. Wasn't sure which to use?

I use those wool wads, [dry] in my 50 when using the maxi hunters.

I don't shoot Maxi Hunters, but I have had great success with T/C Maxi Balls. In my .54 Cal I use 80 grn, volume, of Pyrodex RS without a wad. My farthest kill shot has been 75 yards. I just tried various loads until I found what my rifle liked. That's part of the fun of muzzleloaders.
