Good Afternoon Folks,

I've read several threads about T7 and crud rings. One thing I noticed was that there were far less complaints about a crud ring in a Hawken type rifle using a percussion cap instead of an inline with a 209 primer. I was wondering if there would be a similar reduction in crud ring build-up using an inline configured for Northwest rules using a musket cap.
Thanks.

I think the correlation between the T7 and 209 primers is largely responsible for the infamous crud ring. I'm not sure whether loose powder or the pellets is more responsible for the ring. Like you I haven't see a lot of complaints when the powder is used in sidelocks but I will assume that caps are not near as bad at promoting the rings as primers are even in an in-line.

I can only speak for myself - but I can shoot a whole Rondy shoot using T7-3f and #11 mag caps in any of my Renegades. I can get shoot a range session 10-15 shots with anyone of my Knight inlines and #11 Mag caps... The key for me is to get every bit of any petroleum oil products out and the bore and use only synthetic bore oils. Plus - no Teflon burning Teflon will will really speed up the establishment of the 'crud ring'.

Using triple seven 3 FFFG I have never had a problem with crud ring in my in-line or sidelocks but what you use to clean and lube with has a lot to do with it to.

+1 on the Teflon. I no longer use any product containing Teflon in the bore.

Anyone have a favorite non-Teflon non-petroleum cleaner brand name they'd care to share?

Take a look at this

https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Synthetic ... re+cleaner

Then for a bore oil I use Montana Xtreme Bore Conditioner

https://www.amazon.com/Montana-X-Treme- ... f0&hvadid={creative}&hvpos={adposition}&hvnetw=o&hvrand={random}&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl={devicemodel}&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583795260634057&psc=1

Another very good synthetic bore oil is Slip 2000

These things will not work over night for you because you will need to clear you bore of the old products that you may have used.
