I picked up a CVA Wolf and some Barnes SpitFire 290gr. I’ve shot both white hots and 777.

The white hots have more kick and I assume more zip with the heavy 290gr bullet but the 777 group better.

below are my 50 yard and 100 yard 5 shot groups.

I’m shooting from a sandbag so not a proper sled. I know if I switch to loose I can get better but for deer hunting 100 yard and under I think I’m set.

shoot
2 wet patches
4 dry patches
Reload
Shoot

That has been my sequence consistently.

The groups above were with the 777
White hots were tight at 50 but low and spread out more at 100

Im sticking with the 777
Might switch to loose next year.
If I do can I use my same breach plug or do I need to buy the special one

Those groups look good. If you switch to loose 777 it will probably shoot fine with the stock plug. 777 is easy to ignite. Heck, it might even help reduce the crud ring. If you decide to go to bh209 then you will want to switch to the loose powder breech plug. That stuff ignites harder.

Thanks, it’s very satisfying shooting with the muzzleloader for some reason.

I may be able to shoot better with my .308 but there is something about the loading process and larger projectile with the muzzleloader that adds satisfaction to the whole experience.

I want to shoot the steel gong at 100 to see what sort of smack it gives.

Some good shooting there. Any of those hits would fatal to a deer.
