I'm kinda new to muzzleloaders, had 1 sold it. Any way looking at the CVA Optima V2 Nitride Barrel Break Action Black Powder Rifle .50 Caliber 26" Barrel DuraSight Scope Mount RealTree Xtra Green Synthetic Thumbhole Stock Black Nitride Finish PR2029NM and it recommends the RWS Musket Caps. Can I use 209s in it also? I have spent the last 2 hours searching and can't find a answer. Keeps bringing up №11 caps/primers this and that. Just wanted a simple answer yes or no the are or are they not interchangeable. If you have a reason why 1 is better than the other I would be interested in hearing why you think so. Thanks

I am not a CVA person by any means, but I believe you can change the breech plug, Hammer and spring and shoot 209's

Stewy84,

Where are you reading that it uses musket caps or #11 caps???

That model number is a 209 primer rifle. You don't have to do anything to shoot 209 primers, it comes that way. If you want to shoot Blackhorn 209, then you will want the optional Blackhorn Breech Plug for shooting loose powders, either from CVA or Western Powders.

Some of the Pacific Northwest models are compatible with #11 caps, but that is a different model number. Those rifles also only come with the sights, IIRC. They also use a different firing pin for caps, and have exposed ignitions.

This is what it says for this model PR2029NM.

This is the description on his website must be a pypo

Yeah, must be a typo. Here is the Northwest Optima in stainless steel with fiber optic sights. These have a stronger hammer during, large diameter flat firing pin and bushing. The breech plug has 4 Windows milled into the circumference if the QRBP to be compliant with the "open to the elements" requirement of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The breech plug also has a musket cap nipple for RWS musket caps.

These can be converted to OEM 209 primer QRBP or Blackhorn QRBP, standard firing pin and bushing.
