I recently bought a Switch Rod from Cabelas(7wt 11-6). The problem I had was finding the right weight line to put on the reel. I bought 2 different line weights that were recommended for the rod. Both lines did not cast worth a darn and I was unable to return them since I bought them on line(internet). I paid $79 and $89 dollars for the lines. I ended up buying a #7 Switch line from Orvis(Access Line) for $49 which worked perfectly. I have yet to catch any steelhead on the rod yet since the closest stream to me is a 30 minute drive, but has a very small run of steelhead starting in late October through early April depending on the weather. I primarily swing streamers and nymph fish with an indicator. So far I managed to catch a few suckers on the nymphs which was a lot of fun on the Switch rod. I've been swinging articulated streamers(mostly tied by Kelly Galloup) but as of yet no takers.I live in southeast Michigan and most of our famous salmon/trout/steelhead rivers are farther north about a 4 hour drive. I haven't had the chance to get up there this past season. I still plan to use my switch rod for warm water fishing in local streams and lakes(bass, pike, carp, pan fish).
