She's a 1951, H prefix on the serial number, 336SC .30-30. Inspite of being 72 years old, she's in marvelous shape.
Pristine ( Ballard rifled ) bore and only the most trivial finish wear/ dings.
Also, she's an unmolested waffle top!
Good trigger too.
With Winchester 150 grain Power Points she gave 3 shot 50 yard open sight groups from 3/4" to 1&1/2". For her first outing, I'm pleased.
I did have to clean all kinds of gummed/ oxidized whatever out of her. Don't believe she saw much use. No boogered screws, and even the loading gat has 90-95% finish. Her action is kinda stiff. No matter.
Gonna be looking for a good old steel aperture sight for her. Things should get scary after that...

Chrono'd my reloads today. 150 grain Sierra f.p. over 38 gr of Hodgdon LVR, Winchester brass and CCI 200 primers. O.a.l. 2.52 and crimped with a Lee factory crimp die.
The very small open sights are a challenge! But, 3 shot 50 yard groups hover around 1 & 5/16ths.
Today was no different. Velocity was 2311 fps and, from a 20 inch barrel, not too bad. I was expecting more, LVR is a pretty spunky powder, but I'll take it!
This is a likeable carbine. She'll be a whole lot more likeable once I find the aperture sight!
The overlap of groups, hot or cold barrel, is excellent! This trait is as important to me as accuracy. Rather have a 2 inch rifle that puts them all in the same place, than an incher that wanders.
Off to a good start.
For a breechloader...
