Never been ice fishing. It's the pictures like this that make me wanna try it.

But the grumpy old men movie is how I have it pictured in my head.

That's a beautiful fish btw

We are worlds apart but have similar fish. You've the Northern Pickerel and we the Chain Pickerel, the smaller almost identical relative. I've caught them almost 30" and 6 to 7 pounds. Couldn't image them at 40" with that kinda girth. Either open water or through the ice that's a animal!
Interesting, i didnt know pike & pickerel are the same. This close to Canada, walleye are sometimes called pickerel. Not the same thing at all, tho. I fish for ‘eyes but not pike.
That is a nice pike right there for certain, 1874sharpsshooter.

That's a moose. Nice work. Are you fishing a prairie lake or an impoundment?

My open water largest pike was a hair under 47" and I think in the 22-24 pound range. It was a mid-summer pike. When they start bumping up to that 40" mark they're just amazing fish. I don't keep pike so they're all safe with me.

Putting that many large pike on the ice is a real noteworthy benchmark you've set. Congrats on your prowess at sticking these big girls.
