I also keep my scopes set at the lowest setting when hunting.When at the range I might monkey around at higher magnifications.I find with SFP scopes the point of impact changes at higher magnifications.I have no trouble poking a hole in the center ring with the scope set at 3x. Yes,(like edmehlig) where I'm hunting here in western NY 100-150 would be a long shot,most are 60yds. or less.
 
I have a Burris Eurodiamond that was on my Encore ML for years.Great scope! I have a Black Diamond on a 7 mag, again great scope.I have a Veracity 5x25 on my 30-378 Weatherby with a ballistic reticle , again no complaints.
