I'm just now 57, semi retired and enjoy gun collecting and big game hunting. Been several places in the US big game hunting as well as one trip to Africa in 2002. Fairley accomplished with rifle but a newbe's newbe with the muzzleloader. Just purchased parts to convert my encore 243 to a 50cal pro hunter. Purchased 777 powder and hornady 240 grain 44 caliber sabot bullets and now wonder if I should go with the pointed instead of the hollow point. Also what grain powder to start with in sighting in the gun?

Welcome to the forum Tycoboy!

If it were ME I try both the 200gr and 250gr Shockwaves OR the 250gr XTP. But since you have the 240gr 44cals, why not try them? They may very well shoot as good as anything does.

Also what grain powder to start with in sighting in the gun?

I'd go with 100gr by volume.
