I went on my first out of state deer hunt this year. I had points and drew a tag for zone 5 Iowa first gun season. At 9:15 opening morning I wrapped my tag around the biggest buck I’ve taken to date. It was bittersweet to be able to take such an awesome buck, but at the same time my 2 year wait was over in just a couple short hours, then of course I seen a few LARGER bucks haha. I was hunting about a mile hike back on public land and loaded it out on a cart by myself. That’s some tough terrain if you hunt the ridges in the hard woods let me tell ya. Even came across some tv hunters that are from the area. They had no luck yet when they met up with me. Kinda made me feel good that I was able to harvest a nice one on my first trip out of state. I should add that I got to Iowa a week early and was able to scout for the upcoming season with fresh snow on the ground. Too bad that all melted before season started. All in all it was an awesome adventure.

Great buck and story. I am very happy for your accomplishment, and jealous at the same time. Keep up the good work, next year you will get one of the other big guys you have seen..
Thanks, it will be a couple years before I can go again. You have to have points to draw a tag. I mean, unless I move there. Hahaha

Nice buck. Congratulations. Doesn't it figure. I shot a nice 8 pt one year in archery season and a couple days later was in the same stand for doe and a massive 10 point walked right under my tree at 15 yards and never knew I was there. I have a video of him somewhere on a flash drive.

Sure does figure. If I would’ve passed on the deer, by the next morning my mind would have said it was a 180”! Hahaha and then I probably wouldn’t have seen another buck.

Nice one feller. Count me jealous too, especially of having the free time to scout a full week ahead & in the snow at that. Must be livin right haha
Thanks, I saved all my vacation time just for this. Didn’t get to hunt much in Michigan this past season.
