The top picture from Wolfhound shows the breechplug.

In an inline, it is a threaded fastener that plugs the breech end of the barrel while providing a flash hole to ignite the powder charge, and a retainer for the 209 primer or percussion cap nipple.

By being threaded, it is easy to clean your barrel, and also to push out a bullet in the event of dry loading, etc., without a bullet puller or CO2 discharger.

It is also easy to replace in the case of normal wear.

In a typical inline the breechplug holds the primer or a nipple which holds the primer. It seals the reciever end of the barrel and removes for easier cleaning. See the picture of a dissasembled Omega.
