Perhaps an exaggeration for clarity, but when using reformed 308 cases in my .300 Savage, I backed the charge off by a full grain. Was using 40 grains with 150 grain bullets.
In Remington cases (153 grains) 40 grains of IMR 4064 gave 2540 fps.
39 grains in the reformed Federal 308s (173 grains) gave identical velocity!
40 grains isn't max in most manuals. But if I'd been at max, or close to it and not adjusted the charge, interesting things could happen...
On the plus side, 1 grain less means every 40th round loaded is a freebie!
