Good evening all,

I was wondering if there is someone out there that can help me. I have an old TC encore pro hunter in which you need a tool to remove the breech plug. I know that TC came out with a model that had a breech plug that could removed by your fingers. Does anyone know if I can upgrade my muzzleloader or upgrade the breech plug in order to remove it by fingers?

The other question that I have is I live in CO where you have to use open sights and thinking about adding the Western Precision Sights to it to make it legal. Any thoughts around this sight and or better chocies for open sights?

Thank you again for your time and help!

Welcome to the forum!

I think you’re stuck with the standard plug. I do not think you could upgrade to the speed breech plug without re-threading the barrel.

The Williams Western Precision with the fiber optic front sight is a great hunting sight. Even better is a EABCO Peep Rib or Williams Ace in the Hole type rail/peep with a Williams Western fiber optic front. With this set up you can easily use a scope to work up a load and then take the scope off and use the rear peep for hunting.

Thank you ElDiablo for the information.

Thank you for that information on the TCEPH. I was hoping that I could swap out the barrel or something to be able to use a finger threaded breech plug... but probably not the case...

Do you like the front fiberoptic or do you like to globe ring model for the front sight. I am trying to determine which one to go with...

I have read that some have put illuminated paint on the BDC glob ring for when evening hours come into play. Thoughts?

Thank you again!

Yes, I believe you could change the barrel. All the Encore barrels are interchangeable (except the FX model).

I prefer the fiber optic front. Much better in low light than anything else. With open sights I’m not shooting past about 200 anyway, so the BDC type front reticles aren’t necessary. I zero at 150 and get 6” drop at 200 with my current CO deer rifle set up (250 gr Thor/115 grV BH209).
