We had pretty good packs. Similar to what you showed, retired milsup with a internal frame and nice waist & shoulder straps. I guess as a flatlander, closing in on 60, my best heavy haul days are behind me.

I can do it but I pay for it.
 
Thanks for the recap. I was out on my 1st CO Elk hunt last Oct, 2nd rifle season in unit 521, North of Gunnison. It was public land. I did get an elk with the 300 WSM, 30 yard shot to the neck. The packout was .6 of a mile, to the allowed ATV trail.

I was smitten by the size also, 3 of use were packers, then we had another for moral support. I shot him about 9:00 A.M., the rest of the day was spent cutting, packing, then the trip to the processor.
