The three lots of Blackhorn were measured using the same technique to be 95 grain. Then they were weighed.

The last two numbers after the date.

Lot #37 being heavy is shorting us about 5 shots per bottle. And dang it I just bought 2 bottles of #37.

Ok got it. The bottle I recently opened and I'm shooting now shows 11011626. So lot 26.
The newest bottles I just purchased a couple months ago show 10211935. So lot 35. It will be a while for me to use up the 4 bottles I have right now. I just don't shoot as much as you guys.

This is 5 ,1 , 20 Lot 37.

I weighed out 84 grains and it measured about 105 by volume. Im not trying to start another volume vs weighing debate but that to me seems to be a significant difference. It appears to me that weighing may produce inconsistent volume measurements lot to lot, 84 grains may not always be 105 by volume. Volume will be more consistent (witness mark will not change) but surely point of impact would change for me if I switch from my current 84 weighed (105 volume) to 120 volume right?

Right. I did just what you mentioned, the 120 vol. printed 3” higher than the 105 vol. at 100 yds.

120v weighed out to 91gr. If 120 is still max load by volume then max load by weight is 91 with my current lot #35. Because of the changes in powder density 120v does not equal 84 weighed as stated on the Blackhorn website. Am I missing something? If one chooses to weigh then 91 is safe?

If I recall correctly, I always heard measure BH by volume not weight... from early on. Thought it was even on the website or something. I always use vol anyhow so it wasn't a big deal to me and never gave it alot of thought.

But the variance Ron showed is a pretty big difference. A change in POI could definitely be possible.

I would suggest the TC Brass volume measure with the black sliding cut off. I have used these for several years.

As you can see I have some very early lot numbers of the powder - but they have been pretty consistent. I throw the powder into the volume measure set at 120gr. Vol. cut it off then weigh it. I have done the weighing just out of curiosity.

I've had great luck at 84 weighed which like I said earlier I found out is 105gr v. I started at 70gr weighed and worked my way up to max recommended load. 70gr weighed shot good but I just kept going up until my groups opened up which never happened as every load I tried shot really well. With no discernible difference in loads I went with what I thought was the max load equivilent to 120gr volume.

I have switched to a much better Vortex Viper 4x16 scope so I plan on starting over again at 70gr v. I only switched because I could not get the proper eye relief with the Redfield 3x9.
