Open iron sights or any iron sight? Open sights are the ones that come attached to your barrel from the factory. Any iron sight would include those and also aperture [peep] sights. Just want to clarify. Sounds like fun. Count me in! X

Hunter class. Score 48. It has been quite a while since I shot the Gibbs M/L. so Smokey's postal match was a good excuse to dust it off. The wind was stupid. Naturally, I picked the wrong wind condition to shoot in so it took me 2 hours to shoot 4 sighters and then my 5 for score. The next time...

Traditions E-Bolt 209 - what can I cast for this?

Try 20 grains of powder. If you try to push a patched round ball too quickly in a barrel with shallow rifling and a fast twist, the patched ball doesn't engage the rifling and just skips over it. Check the condition of your fired patches. X

One thing we should all remember..........you are really only competing against yourself. If you have a mediocre target, post up another one and try again. There are no "losers" in a postal match. X

The end result You don't have to be a long range shooter to benefit from what I have written. Hunters can certainly apply some of the most basic things to improve their shooting skills. In Encore's initial post on "Extreme Long Range", he mentions a half dozen things that every in-line...

Keep up the P.T. Just remember...........if the neighbors see you crawling around the yard on your new elbow/knee pads, you'll probably be spending the night at the funny farm! X

After sending a bunch of rounds downrange, I heard a little voice in my head say "Check the flash hole liner stupid!" The .036 pin gauge dropped right through. Lesson learned. X

I hear you. Do whatever you have to do to help your shooting! If you aren't comfortable on the mat, it's hard to concentrate on anything else. If the 2 lady PT's do take you prisoner, call me and I'll come up and break you out!!! X

50-5X Hot tip. Make sure that your flash hole liner isn't burnt out BEFORE you waste a lot of bullets and powder! X

Know your equipment Have you ever shot with a partner either informally at your range or at an organized shooting event? If you are the spotter, what you communicate to the shooter can affect how well they do. Example. Your buddy is shooting at a gong at 200 yards and you are spotting. The...

Managing recoil Equal and opposite reactions. Bullet forward, rifle rearward. Heavier rifle systems have less felt recoil than light ones. Big people soak up recoil better than light people. How many of us have been surprised during recoil by the scope coming back and pecking your shooting...

BREATH CONTROL Breathing is easy. Everybody does it. If you shoot at any target or animal and want to increase your chances of hitting where you are aiming, there is a little more to it. I observe a lot of shooters at the range who just breathe normally as they break the shot. If I ask them...

Encore.........Our score cards have a small box to check off where the shooter verifies the score. I also keep my own score for each shot while on the shooting mat. I add up my score before I get up off the mat when the relay is over, then compare scores with my scorekeeper. X

Post script..........Encore, go to your thread "match ready" and add up your 800 yard score again. I think your scorekeeper robbed you of a point. X
