    Whitehots vs bh209

My 300grain Mach 3 Rifle is built on the Rem 700ML action. I am glad to see somebody is making barrels for it again.

    Whitehots vs bh209

The original Savage 10ML 50 caliber rifle was made to shoot smokeless powder over 20 years ago. A 45 caliber replacement barrel will give you more velocity and energy.

    Whitehots vs bh209

There are a few Savage 10ML rifles still around, if you can find someone willing to part with it. You can also put one of the barrels on a Savage CF action if you can find one. Arrowhead Rifles sells a bolthead for the Savage CF that takes 209 primers. Prefit barrels are available, if you can...

    Whitehots vs bh209

The MSD sheet for "White Hots" is found below. BH209 is a hybrid powder containing 83% nitrocellulose, which is the same thing found in smokeless powders. It will produce much higher pressures than the IMR "White Hots", which use corrosive oxidizers for the source of Oxygen. The chemicals...

What do you think of the Firestick/Nitrofire system?

Nitrocellulose... Guanidine Nitrate... Potassium Perchlorate.. are the main propellant chemicals in BH209. What do we find below in the Firestick? The company could pull the wool over our eyes, if it were not for the requirement for them to produce a MSDS...

What do you think of the Firestick/Nitrofire system?

Based on the MSD sheets for the two products, the propellant is the same thing. After I made this video, I compared the ingredients by looking at both MSD sheets. You need to use the BH209 breech plug made for the Wolf, if you are going to use this propellant. .

Blackhorn 209 by weight is not measuring up to volume line

If you go into any Chemistry lab in the world and ask the same question, you will get the same answer from every lab. The mass (weight) of the propellant determines the pressure produced by the burning propellant, because the mass is the best measure of the chemicals that go "bang". That mass...

    sizing copper bullets ?

Because the sizer may not be perfectly circular, you may want to turn the bullet 180 degrees before the second pass through the sizer.

    Hornady 325 Grain FTX

The deer on the left was killed by one of my customers with the 325 grain Horn. .458 FTX in the MMP Orange sabot, out of a Rem 700ML I converted to 209 ignition. The deer on the right was killed by my niece's husband with the same bullet and sabot and a "Self-Ejecting Muzzleloader Safety...

Blackhorn 209 by weight is not measuring up to volume line

Unless the formulation is changed, the weight of the product does not change from lot to lot. 80 grains by weight will contain the same amount of propellant, no matter what the lot number. However, the volume can change based on slight variations in the shape and size of the granules. A pound...

Blackhorn 209 by weight is not measuring up to volume line

I worry about the data coming from the "test lab" being correct, if the guy does not know any better. You and I both know he is wrong. The following video shows how I normally test pressures now.

Blackhorn 209 by weight is not measuring up to volume line

The contact person at Hodgdon may be some computer geek that does not have any practical experience in shooting a muzzleloader. Anyone doing benchrest shooting will probably tell you they weigh their powder. A friend of mine just paid close to a thousand dollars for a lab-grade scale that...

Blackhorn 209 by weight is not measuring up to volume line

When Blackhorn 209 first came on the market the Material Safety Data Sheet was different from what it says today. The older version contained the word "ester". Why was it different than the newer version? Perhaps the company did not want shooters to know the product is made up of 83%...

What sabot bullet combo for deer out to 100 yards

Try some of the new 340 grain Hornady BoreDrivers, with 84 grw BH209. I also used my Pressure Trace II with a strain gauge glued to the outside of a heavy barreled 50 caliber rifle to develop some Low-Pressure smokeless loads for my use. A DVD set demonstrating these loads, which have...

They look pretty long, just looking at them from your photo. Have you done any calculations on the twist required to stabilize them? .
