I was out this morning bowhunting and watched a little Y buck chasing a doe past my stand. Both myself an d my hunting buddy have been seeing active scrapes. It seems awfully early for this activity.

I know here in Iowa that kind of activity isn't unusual. It always seemed to me it's all weather related. When you have colder weather in October deer activity always seems to pick up. Of course warmer weather seems to dampen deer activity. I prefer weather this time of year no warmer than 55° during daylight hours.

Walking the deer property last week in south central Illinois for youth season we were seeing loads of scrapes and bucks running all over. I thought the same thing. They need to chill out till the middle or end of November and wait for me to get in the stand.

Well its likely just the little bucks. You remember how you were when you were a teenager! The big boys know the doe aren't ready yet. They're saving their energy.

I’ve notice this for years. Come the 15th of October bucks testosterone goes crazy and start chasing does.

I have a friend here in Central Virginia and his farm exploded two days ago with buck activity. I made a short trip today and saw two road kills one being a young basket rack. I’ve also noticed for years that there is this increased activity in October. I always called it “pre rut” but not sure if that’s correct or not.

I shot a Doe on the 6th n she was already for all takers. Geez she stunk badly.

Well I'd be nice if they could hold it till Nov 16th for me. Find something else to chase for a few weeks.
