In n.i.b. condition, at Cabelas for a silly good price. Couldn't pass.
Her bolt throw is new stiff and I had to get hardened cosmoline out of the bore and action.
She has both the Alexandria VA and Manchester England addresses and the date code, found between the holes for mounting an aperture sight ( 0282) indicates February of 1982.
Fit and finish of wood and metal is really excellent.
The 24 inch barrel is nicely contoured and has a ramp/ bead front sight, and a Williams WGOS rear.
The trigger is a single stage commercial model with a side safety. As is, it's a long pull but it breaks clean at about 4 pounds. Adjustment to follow! Will shoot her as is to get a base line. Federal blue box 150s for her first outing. Did a quick feed/ extract/ eject check and all was well.
The walnut stock is nicely proportioned and inletted.
Should be fun!

You have a good find. Years ago I bought several barreled Mark X actions in different calibers. I still own a 270 win version and had another 270 barreled action bored out to make my 35 Whelen. If interested there are after market triggers. I believe that is considered a large ring Mauser action for any parts you wish to buy. I replaced the wood for a cheap synthetic Ramline stock and the triggers are now Timney. Excellent find.

Well! Open sights at 50 yards with Federal blue box 150s gave encouraging results!
3 round groups went from 3/8ths to 11/16ths. Had one at 1& 1/2, but sun glare was an issue. And I was getting a bit punchy. I'm not used to the .30-06...
Off to a good start! Ought to stack holes scoped.
She is already d& t'd for an aperture sight...

Shot the rest of the box of 150 Federals today. With almost identical results. This one's a keeper!
Being an '06, she's a long range stick. But I'm up in the air about how to sight her. Glass is an obvious choice, but I do love my apertures.
With my old No4 Mk2, I could keep 10 rounds in 6-9 inches at 300 yards. Repeatable.
This ought to be fun. She has the adjustable trigger, and I will tune it. Better is better after all.
I saw another Mark X, much more worn, and the bolt ran very smoothly.
So here I sit, running the bolt to accelerate the process.
This is another rifle I could get used to...

I had a 22 that felt like it had a rusted bolt. I took a fine lapping compound and applied it to the rails and parts or the bolt. About 50 strokes into this process , I did a visual check and looked for bright spots. Sure enough, their were metal burrs from a machining process that caused the grinding feel. I attacked these spots with a fine grit wet sand paper glued to a scrap of wood cut to fit the rails. It's a tedious process but it will get it done.
