Any of the target shooting prone shooters use elbow pads?

I've been using a cheap pair I got at Dunham's, which are really for stick & ball, not shooting. They're not "user friendly". Shooting in the prone position 70 times over a weekend is darn hard on the elbows and knees.

I'm considering these elbow pads: https://altaindustries.com/products/alta-flex-shockguard®-elbow-pads?variant=15958043394097

I'm also considering upgrading my knee pads, especially since they're putting me back into PT for this knee next month.

best ones to use if you can find them are the ones used for knee pads . Back in my day used to play Basketball

Those are what I've been using, the stick & ball pads. The elbow pads just tear up my elbows because the inside isn't smooth.

Have you tried the ALTA pads?

Have you looked at skateboarder pads? I've never shot prone so not sure what type of protection is needed. Just a thought.

Or some construction knee pads. Like the hinged design.

Yup, I've looked over the skateboard stuff and have not cared for it. Doesn't look comfortable for getting down into position and back up. Built for falls.
Now the Toughbuilt knee support is interesting, especially when they discuss ergonomics. I'm a retired ergonomist ;)

The stick & ball pads I've been using are basically just for a possible strike, but when you have to get up and down maybe 70 times on a weekend, the inside will chafe the heck out of your elbows. You're shooting off a mat with a course non-skid top.

The knee pad/s must be more specific. I had a right knee replacement that after 5wks got a bad infection. Needless to say, it's not your typical knee replacement, especially after having double surgeries and double the scar tissue. They're actually sending me back to PT to try and break up the scar tissue. That said, I need a pad more for shooting that will absorb my weight on the knee and allow me to quickly get into and out of position.

Here's an example of elbow pads......... These are non-slip rubber.

I only use an elbow pad on my right arm. It is a standard closed cell foam pad in an elastic sleeve similar to the Mizuno MZO volleyball elbow pad listed on amazon. I think you will find the elbow and knee pads you listed will be kind of awkward and maybe a little slick since they are designed for impact protection with the plastic "cups" on the outside. I shoot from either canvass or cordura nylon shooting mats which have a rather rough surface and I have found the pads I use to be quite adequate. I shoot prone from a rather low position and like to feel exactly where my elbows are on the mat. But that's me. Your mileage may vary. X

Join the army and get your pads for freeor get a dedicated shooting jacket, like I have, which has rubber elbow pads sewn into the fabric and a padded shoulder area. On my concrete bench it's wonderful. I con't shoot prone, but that's what it was designed for.

Those I listed actually are non-slip rubber and not plastic, actually made for shooting.
I can't get that low on the mat, I'm just not used to shooting prone, so I'm actually high off the mat. I use this mat: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939342825?pid=342825

Most all of the pads that I've been able to actually look at, all had a rougher interior, which wears the heck out of my elbows. 70 times a weekend is tough on this old man. Of course you know its also timed. My knee is a whole different issue and I need as much protection as I can get. This replacement has not gone well after all the bacterial infection. The double surgery has so much scar tissue, I can't get on my knee at all. They're putting me back in PT next month, which I hope they can break it up. Quite frankly, if the house was to catch on fire and I fell down, I'd have a hard time making it out. This has not been a good experience.

I'll come up with something that at least works better than what I've been using.
