The last 2 years there has been 12 deer taken with this load in my ss model, and 1 with my blue model useing this load,12 bucks and 2 does from 50 to 234 yds.
Have several buddies shooting the same load and they all took deer too.
All were complete pass throughs, most dropped where they stood, the fartherest one ran was about 75 yds shot it running at 78 yds.Shot one at 50 yds head shot, all most took his head off.One at 234 yds looked like it took 2 slow motion steps and fell over.
Thinking about trying the barnes 245 spit fire this year with the same load.

And you are complaining about recoil of my Steyr?

Last fall it was:

245 Spitfire
Supplied yellow sabot
67.0 grains IMR 4198
CCI 209M
Estimate 2450 fps
Terminal performance--

I shot three deer with that load last fall. I only recovered one of Spitfires--and that was from a large (approximately 170 pounds) buck that I shot nearly straight on. I did not go through the opening below the neck--the Spitfire hit the breast bone/top of rib cage at an angle, penetrating several inches of bone in a straight line, and going on to take out one lung, the heart and aorta, the diaphram, and the liver. I found the slug against the hide next the genitals--just a few more inches and I would have had end-to-end penetration, and probably would have gotten it if I hadn't hit the breast bone on the way in.

In contrast, I also shot a fair sized buck (about 140 pounds) broadside through the heart. Autopsy showed that, in the inch or two that it took to penetrate the ribcage, the Spitfire fully expanded, leaving about .5" to 1.0" hole on the outside of the ribcage, but a huge opening into the body cavity. It of course blew on through the far side.

This fall, it will be:

300 grain Shockwave

82.5 grains H322
CCI 209M

Estimate it to be about 2500 fps.

I'll let you know about terminal performance this fall.
