.530 round ball

I just picked up a vintage CVA rifle, 54 caliber and have ordered a box of 530 round balls. I didn't realize that the .530 ball weighs in at 225 grains.
That's a pretty heafty chunk of lead.
Shouldn't have a problem putting the smackdown on a deer with one of those.

Thanks, I've taken a good number of deer with 50's. Looking forward to hunting with my new old gun.

I’ve been shooting .530 round balls for over 20 years. I use 80 grains of FFF, and puts deer down like a charm. Good luck with the new old gun.

Im looking forward to using that new to me 58 I bought. 280 grain round ball. If it wasnt for the smoke I bet I could see it go to the target. LOL. Figure if I miss with my first shot Ill pull them out of my bag and throw them by hand.

I have 3 54 cal one CVA with1x66 twist likes 2 f triple 7 85 gr. I have 2 Lyman deer stalkers in 54 with 1x 48 twist like a 405 Maxi ball with 80 gr t7.. I domt remember how many tc 54 cal I hadover the years

Here's a picture of my new rig.
CVA Missouri. 54 caliber, 1/48 twist, 28 inch barrel. The old girl needs a bit cleaned up. I think she'll be a good shooter.

I've ordered some .530 balls and a 54 cal. cleaning/loading jag plus some .010 pillow ticking.
Soon as all that comes in, I'll be up to the range.

I like the Missouri. Friend has one, shot it a few times over the years. Nice shooter. PRB on top of 80 grns ff bp if i remember correctly. Nice find deerman
