Fair Offer on an Early H&R Huntsman

Hey guys, one of my hunting club buddies has an elderly family member that wants to sell an unfired 1974 model .45 caliber H&R Huntsman - one of those early ones with a wood stock, barrel band, and a slide in breech plug with an O-ring that uses percussion caps. I'm thinking about buying it just to play around with. What do you think would be a fair offer?

Unfired might go a little higher at $200 - $250.

The .45 cals are a 1:56 twist, the .58 cals are 1:66.

Here is going to be your best place to find a fair market value. I went through the first 31 pages and found 4 .58 cal ads that were also made in the 70's at the same time as the. 45 calibers. If you start at page 32 and keep going, you will run into some .45 cals eventually. You may have to go back quite a ways, but they will be in the same range as the .58 cals from that time frame.

Thanks guys.

There's no doubt they will take $175 for the gun. But I didn't realize the .45's were 1:56 twist. I would want to shoot .40 caliber bullets in sabots, which would not likely be suited to that twist rate. I think I'll pass.

I have the 45 cal. huntsman great shooter made to shoot round balls only love it , only thing I've done to it was put the 209 primer nipple on it love it even more now.....
